FAQ about County

Q: How many individual events may a swimmer compete in at the County meet?

A: Swimmers are allowed to enter a maximum of 2 individual events at the County meet, plus relays.

Q: Does only the "A" relay participate in County?

A: No! The team is allowed to enter more than 1 relay. The coaches will take a few relays per age group so long as they have a chance of scoring in the Top 8 at the meet.

Q: What place do you have to finish to qualify for Finals at the County meet?

A: For individual events, swimmers placing in the Top 16 earn a second swimmer and a chance to score points for the team. For relays, the Top 8 relay teams earn a sceond swim and opportunity to score points for the team. Remember, swimming is a team sport.

Q: How important is it for qualifying swimmers to attend the meet?

A: Very important! RHCC has to go up against nearly 70 teams! The larger team we can take to the meet, the more opportunities we have to earn points.

Q: When can you qualify for County?

A: Swimmers may qualify for County at ANY meet during the summer except team Time Trials.

Q: What do swimmers receive who qualfy for County?

A: If a swimmer qualifies for County, then they will receive a gold County cap. In 2010, the County caps will begin having the year on it. Caps will also be made available for pick-up at the meet, so swimmers can now get their cap directly after their swim.

Q: Do County swimmers have practice at the same time as normal after the VSA League Meet?

A: No. Swim practice times will change. We will still practice in the morning, but possibly at a different time slot. Because of the smaller group sizes, the coaches often have the 9 and up practices running at the same time, and then the 8 & under practices after that. The practice schedule will be finalized the week before the League meet.

Q: Are private lessons still available between the League and County meets?

A: Yes, private lessons with the coaches will still be available. Again, there will be an adjusted schedule from the typical summer schedule.

Q: If I am close to County after the League meet, is there another meet I can swim in to try to qualify?

A: Yes! There are typically a few meets during the 2 week gap between League and County. The team attends one Last Chance meet each year. This means that the coaches will complete your entries and attend the meet in support of the few swimmers who are trying to qualify for County. Because it is not a team meet, participants are required to pay entry fees. There may be other meets during the time period as well, but due to team expenses, swimmers will be on their own to enter and attend the meet.
